Only 11 Trevors and three Carols were born in Britain last year

ONLY three Carols, seven Susans and 11 Trevors were born in Britain last year, data reveals.

The once traditional names are fading out and being replaced with ones borrowed from pop culture.

Just 13 Gordons entered the world in 2019 in England and Wales and only 11 baby boys were called Vince. Only eight girls were given the name Janice.

But following singer Dua Lipa’s first UK No1 single in 2017, the number of girls given her first name has doubled to 126.

And the rise of Amazon’s personal assistant may have killed off the name Alexa.

Since 2016, when the Alexa devices were first available, the name has decreased in popularity from 332 that year to just 39 in 2019, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The number of boys called Taron has rocketed, with 48 last year.

Experts think it’s down to actor Taron Egerton, star of 2019 Elton John biopic Rocketman.

Kylo has also increased in popularity from ten to 67 thanks to Star Wars character Kylo Ren.

UNLESS you’re Welsh there is little joy in being a Trevor.

Trevor is one of those names picked for hen-pecked TV sitcom characters, along with Malcolm, or Norman.

So I am still Trevor Kavanagh and, after all these years, have grown rather fond of the sound. It has a clunky rhythm.

I’m just glad I wasn’t called Oliver.
