A 19-year-old Davenport man charged with first-degree murder in the 2023 death of an 18-year-old Davenport woman appeared in court Tuesday as his jury trial continued.

Zion Harrison faces felony charges of second-degree murder, going armed with intent and assault while participating in a felony – serious injury; as well as an aggravated misdemeanor of using a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime, court records show.

Our Quad Cities News was in the Scott County courtroom where Harrison appeared with his attorney as the jury saw sometimes-graphic photos.

A Davenport Police Officer testified that photos taken at the scene show evidence that includes bullet casings and clothing. The officer, who answered questions from prosecutor Scott County Attorney Kelly Cunningham, said Zulu was struck three times by bullets.

The scene in 2023

Davenport Police, Fire, and Medic EMS were called to the 2700 block of 53rd Street on April 9, 2023, at about 11:30 p.m. for a report of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old woman with apparent gunshot wounds. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was identified as Faith M. Zulu.

Harrison, then 18, was arrested and charged in her death. According to arrest affidavits, Harrison and Zulu got into an altercation outside a residence. Harrison had a loaded handgun during the altercation and discharged it in the direction of Zulu multiple times, police allege in affidavits.

Harrison has been held in Scott County Jail. The trial is set to continue Wednesday.
